I Finally Watched

Considering it aired over a decade ago, some find it amazing that I have never seen Band of Brothers. That is, of course, until the last few weeks.

I won't get into the specifics of the show; that's what Wikipedia is for, after all. The long and short of it, it's based on the book of the same name by Stephen Ambrose. 10 parts. 11 hours. It tells the fictionalized history of Easy Company from the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division during World War II. The title (of the book and, therefore, the series) comes from the St. Crispin's Day Speech from Shakespeare's Henry V. "We few, we happy few, we band of brothers."

Like I said, the short version.

So, I finally watched the series. It was good. I don't think I liked it as much as other people, and certainly not as much as Dad. To be quite honest, I didn't really get into it until the end of the ninth episode. And I suddenly found myself tearing up. Regardless, everything up to that point felt just like any other war film or series to me. I know people like the series for the characters, and there were some interesting points and characteristics and character interactions, yet I found myself spacing out at times.

That said, I did like it overall, but not enough to watch the whole thing again.

Now, all of you Band of Brothers fanatics—said with all love and support, of course—can commence with the shelling in my direction.

I thought it was good but not something I'd watch again.

Perhaps the issue is that your expectations were tainted by hype. I find that ruins a lot of entertainment experiences, it's why I don't find The Wire to be the most amazing TV show ever. Or maybe it's because all art is subjective. Whichever. But if you weren't into this one I do not recommend the follow-up to this series, The Pacific.

I've never seen it. It's probably available on Netflix, so I'll get to it eventually.

YOU should have said something... we own it, I'd have been happy to send it to you. :) Tony loved it, but he loves all of those types of shows.

I have yet to watch it myself, even though I do have my brother's boxed set. Probably should get to it and then get it back to him.

I've seen the whole series. I thought it was good. I think vets can especially appreciate it all the aspects it shows.

I'm like you. It was good, but I won't watch it again. My husband loves it and watches it any time he can manage when it's on.

Dave and I just watched it too, and it was so good. So good.

Know what else I am watching that is older? Buffy. I finally did it as per your many suggestions and I am loving it!

Now that I am unemployed though, I am watching it WAY too quickly!!
