Top Five Tuesday: Movie Music

As I was driving home the other day, a song came on the radio and made me think of a specific movie. In this specific case, it was  "Break On Through (To The Other Side)" by The Doors that made me think of Forrest Gump.

See...it's as easy as that. Without further ado...

Five Songs That No Matter When I Hear Them, I Think Of A Specific Movie

1. "Higher Ground" by Stevie Wonder (or the version by Red Hot Chili Peppers)  - Center Stage
2. "The Pretender" by Jackson Browne - Mr. Holland's Opus
3. "Paint It Black" by The Rolling Stones - Stir of Echoes
4. "Under Pressure" by David Bowie and Queen - Grosse Pointe Blank
5. "Romeo and Juliet" by Dire Straits - Empire Records

You know, I would post links to the videos or to the movie cover art, but I'm just going to play it safe. You know, as far as copyright goes.

What about you? What songs make you think of specific movies?

"Highway to the Danger Zone" Top Gun
"Dust in the Wind" Old School (it makes me chuckle every time I hear it now because I think of Will Ferrel singing it)
"Tequila" Pee Wee's Big Adventure
"Blaze of Glory" Young Guns II (don't judge me, it's what came to mind)
And the #1 song, which I have on my iPod and play all the time when I'm exercising: "You're the Best Around" Karate Kid
Honorable Mention: the "Yub Nub" Ewok song from Return of the Jedi that was so rudely removed by Lucas.

I always connect I HAD THE TIME OF MY LIFE with DIRTY DANCING and HOLDING OUT FOR THE HERO with a certain TV show from the 80s :) and WE DON'T NEED ANOTHER HERO with MAD MAX off course.

The women's duet from The Marriage of Figaro now reminds me of The Shawshank Redemption. It's from the scene where Andy seizes the prison PA system and plays a record for the inmates.

La Mamma Morta reminds me of that scene in Philadelphia when Tom Hanks character is discussing his own death. Gah.

"You Never Can Tell" by Chuck Barry and Pulp Fiction, the scene where Uma Thurman and John Travolta are dancing. Coolest moves ever.

I've got a bunch more but I don't want to leave a novel in your comments section.

Empire Records is such a good movie.

When I hear anything by David Bowie I think of Labyrinth, does that count?

Other than Bohemian Rhapsody being spolied by WAYNE'S WORLD, probably not many that weren't on a soundtrack.

There are a lot of songs that always make me think of Empire Records - and not just because it's one of the best movies EVER!

P.S. I saw on someone's IWSG post that you're doing NaNo. Done it before? Was it helpful for you?
