Top Five Tuesday: Recall

I thought I'd go a little retro today. All triggered by number one on the list...

Top Five Things That Recall Childhood

1. Circus Peanuts - I love that these things are still around and readily available. We used to eat them the only way possible: poke a hole in the bag, let them sit for a day or two, and then enjoy. Why? Who the hell knows, really. They're just...better that way.
2. Peeps - Same thing here as with the circus peanuts. A day or two stale, and they're perfect.
3. Hot Wheels - You know, I hadn't really thought about these in a long time. We're using them as incentive to get The Boy potty trained. This is where I go: "Back in my day, you had to just remember which cars you owned. Kids these days, QR codes printed on the back, you just scan them and add the car to your online collection. Or scan it at the store to see if you own it already." Damn kids. I love the look on his face, though, when he gets to pick a new one.
4. Fraggle Rock - I loved this when I was younger, and I love it still. The Girl likes watching them...well, she used to; she's moved on to other things. The Boy...he just doesn't care.
5. Rollerblades - You know, you just don't see these things around anymore. Can anyone tell me why? Time was, these were just all over. Including one of my all-time favorite guilty pleasure movies Airborne. Which they have never released on DVD in the states.

Suddenly I'm feeling a whole lot older. You?

Good list. I suppose Lego reminds me of my childhood, but then I still build Lego now (big kid) so I'm not sure if that counts.

You know, it is rare to find another human being who enjoys a good Circus Peanut. I love those darned things. I actually like them soft though. I squeeze one or two in the bag to test them before purchasing. Yeah, I'm the a-hole who does that.

Lot's of people have roller blades here in Nashville. Maybe we haven't caught on to the whole safety risk thing here. Seeing as how we just had the whole alcohol enema scandal at our state university, I'm not surprised.

My dad always has peanuts around to crack ;) Peeps? We were never allowed. Hot wheels - gotta get us some. Never had rollerblades - wasn't cool enough or was too clumsy! I wonder what stuff from my childhood my kiddos will think is retro...
BTW, I'm giving you a shout-out on my blog on the 2nd, 'cause I'll be on vacation and don't wanna write anything ;)

Fraggle Rock was a bit past my childhood, so I'd go with Scooby-Doo and the Banana Splits. Hot Wheels though - that's every boy's childhood! (QR codes? Really?)

Have you seen the new Ben Folds Five video on YouTube that features Fraggles? It's pretty great.
Also, now I know what use those QR codes serve.
I'm nostalgic about Lucky Charms, Micro Machines, Fraggles as well, Jungle Gyms, and riding my bike to the convenience store to buy comic books with my allowance.

Ever tried putting a pink and yellow peep in the microwave and having a peep war? If not, do it...

Um, what's a circus peanut? I'm sure I know, but I don't recall these things.

Fraggle Rock ... oh now. I just got zipped back to the 80s. Now I'm thinking of Little Critters cereal (man, that was good stuff).

When I was a kid everyone had rollerblades - except me because I was balance challenge (clumsy) - but I never see them anywhere.

Fraggle Rock was the best thing ever.

I just had circus peanuts a few days ago. ALMOST as good as Cadbury Eggs.

I loved the Fraggles! I also had a mechanical Teddy Ruxpin doll that played cassette tapes which my mom still has and I now think it's extremely creepy! Branden still loves Hot Wheels and has a massive collection back in the states, along with probably a few miles worth of that orange track :)

Fraggle Rock, yes (although I was more a fan of the Muppets). And rollerblades, I want a pair so my dog could get some use of that pulling in the leash he always does.

Me? Texan bars, mint cracknels, chips from the Chinese takeaway on a Friday night with my folks, and 2000AD! Awesome, every one! Indigo

I'm going to be 78 in a couple of days, & you tell me YOU feel old? You've got some nerve, punk!

I missed out on the whole Fraggle Rock thing. But I remember when ABC/NBC/CBS all rolled with HOURS of Saturday morning cartoons to fry my brain.

And I used to blade. Was never good, so stopped before I died. Still see them some. In fact saw two women blading down the sidewalk tonight. They didn't think traffic had to watch out for them, so when the car inched into the crosswalk to make a turn, she almost plowed into it.

Rollerblades didn't mix well in the new age of parents caring about their children hurting themselves.

Fun list. Oddly enough as you get older, all those things come back around. I have three of your five things in my house now.

Love Fraggle Rock.
I try to have an overall plan for upcoming blog posts. I keep a running email to myself with links of interesting stuff... If all else fails, talk about your writing progress! Or link to videos :-)
